Prison Island

Board a local dhow from Stonetown and head towards Prison Island, also known as Chumbe Island, famous for its excellent views of Stone Town and for its giant tortoises imported from Aldabra in the Seychelles in the late 19th century. They stand up to a rather staggeringly one metre high, could feasibly be hundreds of years old, and are frequently seen copulating. The beautiful beach is an ideal spot for sunbathing and the clear waters lend to excellent snorkelling. You can also ride the Tortoises! R954 pp
