Praslin Island - Lying 45km northeast of Mahé, this 11.3 x 4 km island is the ‘Seychelles on the brochures.’ Your first step onto this island’s shores in one you will not easily forget as a feeling of complete calm washes over you almost instantaneously and lingers long after you leave.
Smaller and quieter than Mahé, Praslin has less than half of Mahé’s accommodation facilities but by no means falls short of its natural beauty. The Vallee de Mai, the islands own UNESCO World Heritage site and believed by General Gordon of Khartoum to be the site of ‘The Garden of Eden’, is a mystical labyrinth where coco de mers grow wild and spider webs glisten through endemic palms where the rate black parrot roams.
The Curieuse Marine National Park boarders the Northern coast of Praslin and provides some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Seychelles’ waters. Due to its close proximity to the smaller islands of the archipelago, Praslin is the perfect base for those who have ‘island hopping’ at the top of their itinerary. Cousine, Curieuse, St Pierre, La Digue, Aride, Sisters and Coco islands are but a few that can enjoyed from Praslin by boat. Anse Lazio, one of the most photographed beaches on earth, makes is home on the Northern most part of the island and is just one of the gorgeous beaches found on this island.
