Pinewood Village - 3star+
Located 50 kilometers from Mombasa airport in Kenya, the boutique hotel of Pinewood Village is located on the Diani Beach and 25 kilometers from Mombasa’s town center. The hotel has been designed to merge with the beauty of the unspoiled beaches of the Indian Ocean. It is well known for the personal attention and service of the staff. This resort has won awards for its hospitality and it was once again remodeled in 2008 for the benefit of their guests, ensuring that they enjoy their stay to the fullest.
The principal sponsor of Pinewood Village initially developed the idea for the resort when he was looking for a place to build a weekend retreat on the beach. He found the property by accident and after seeing the property, he knew that the property was the ‘special place’ he had been looking for. The property was named Pinewood Village after the Casuarina trees on the lot. Unfortunately many of the trees were washed away during a high tide, but there are still some left on the southern end of the resort for guests to enjoy.
Initially the property was only to have one hut with further additions at a later time. But the owner’s uncle who worked construction offered him excellent terms and built the resort for him. The resort opened its doors to the public in 1991 after numerous setbacks and problems. But the developer and his wife persevered, determined to share their special space with anyone who wanted to stay with them.
The main lodge is the home of the many different restaurants and bars that cater to the guests staying there. There is a spa located on the premises that caters to singles and couples as well as a fully equipped gym for those guests who wish to continue their exercise regimen while on vacation. Guests will enjoy the swimming pool with Jacuzzi and pool deck for relaxing in the sun, complete with beach beds and umbrellas. Members of the staff can arrange safaris for their guests and there is an excursion deck available where guests can sit and enjoy the Colobus monkeys that live in the forest surrounding the resort. Guests can also stroll through the resort’s gardens to enjoy the flowers and the native birds.
One of the upgrades that was made at Pinewood Village in 2008 is the new conference center. It features a board room table complete with center electrical outlets and eighteen executive leather chairs. There is a secretariat desk and chair also available, providing seating for 19 if required. Amenities include an LCD projector, 70x70 screen, flip charts, telephone for conference calls, and WI-FI internet. The conference room is fully carpeted and air conditioned with variable lighting levels. There is full waiter service available and LAVAZZA coffees and snacks available at all times. The resort can provide personalized lunches, theme dinners, and beach BBQs for the guests utilizing the conference center if requested.
Guests who are looking for a wonderful souvenir to bring home should visit the Zawadi Boutique, the resorts gift shop. Inside they will find a wide variety of original Kenyan pieces, handpicked items, and gifts. Most of the items are handmade and represent the many different cultures from around the country. Some of the items they carry include jewelry, paintings by local artists, soapstone figures, clothing, personal accessories, and more.
Guests to Pinewood in 2008 can enjoy the resorts wedding package, experiencing an exclusive and personal service on the white beach with the palm trees blowing in the breeze. The bride is escorted through the floral archways that are provided to the beach by chanting Maasai warriors and the ceremony is provided by an official registrar.
