Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge

 is built on the place of the Chunini Palace.

Sultan Seyyid Barghash bin Said (Zanzibar Sultan 1870-1888) has built this palace in the late 70th of the 19th century.
In a very good condition you can find nowadays the aquaduct , the connected cisternes, the bath and the minarett.

Hakuna Matata has been integrated in these ruins. So a very unique resort with a"Touch of History“came up you
will not find somewhere else.


In June 2007 we opened a unique Day Spa  in the old ruins Imagine a setting  on the shore of theIndian Ocean combined with the experience of a professional therapist. Let your senses flow
while you catch up the smell of aromatic spice oils .A relaxing aroma massage will make your body feel youngerthan ever.

Enjoy sitting in the Jacuzzi taking a Floral Bath. The interior of the Spa will take you to the world of 1000 and 1 night. Just our Sheherezade is named Victoria.

Besides all the history you have of course Internet access and the opportunity to  connect your own Laoptop via WLAN

The Lodge is operated personally by the german owners Fritz und Rose
The size of the resort is about 1,5 ha. Included is a private bay with 150 meter white clean sandy beach
We kept all the old trees -  big mango trees give you a shady place on a hot and sunny day.
Papaya, banana, guava, breadfruit, coconutpalms and almond trees let you feel to be in paradise where the fruits grow straight to your mouth.


The Swahili word Hakuna Matata means „No Problems“.
According to this motto we want you to spend your holidays in our little paradise

Hakuna Matata  offers space for 33 guests in 12 bungalows. Our bungalows are located on an area of 1,5 ha and offer a lot of privacy

All bungalows have a big living room with a queen or kingsize bed and a spacious bathroom with toilet and shower AC, ceiling fan, hot and cold water, moskito net, shower gel, hair dryer,towels, beach towels and mats are mandatory The big terrace gives you a spectacular view to the Indian Ocean

The superior bungalows  are more spacious than the others . They have a separate toilet, more space and comfort in the bathroom and an additional bed.

The honeymoon suite with terrace over the Indian Ocean and an additional outside bath offers absolute privacy.

Our new executive bungalows offer a lot of space - bathroom with toilet and shower, bedroom , 35qm livingroom and the terrace with an exeptional view to the ocean. The livingroom has 2 additional couch beds

Our bungalows are named after famous persons like David Livingstone or Bernhard Gzimek who visited these places in Tanzania and Zanzibar
during different centuries.
