Bazaruto Archipelago Trust: The Bazaruto Archipelago is a National Park. A donation of US$10 per person is requested: US$6 goes into trust for the Benguerra Community and US$4 goes to the National Park.
Location The Lodge is situated on the protected North West side of Benguerra Island (Bazaruto Archipelago). ± 900km North of Maputo and 435km South of Beira
Facilities: The Main Lodge consists of: •Large Reception Area and Gift Shop •Expansive Lounge and Bar, Dining Room and Library – all with large wooden decks and indoor and outdoor seating areas •There is also a Swimming Pool and small Spa. Transfers: •The island is a mere 8 minute flight from Vilanculos – transfers operated by Pelican Air (weather dependent). •The Lodge is 20 minutes drive from the airstrip. Island Airstrip: •Co-ordinates: 21.51.00 S / 35.27.00 E. •1,000 meters of useable hard grass.
Credit Cards: •Visa and Master Card accepted at the Lodge for Extras only. No Amex or Diners Club accepted. 2008 Accommodation Rates Include (valid from 01 March 2008): •All Meals & Snacks, all Drinks (excluding selected imports), Laundry, Mozambican tax and Medical Rescue Insurance. •Also included are all Activities – excluding Scuba Diving, Saltwater Fly Fishing, Game Fishing and Yacht Trips. Highlights: •Gorgeous African sunsets, solitude and peace are a reality at Benguerra. Guests can choose to do as little, or as much, as they want… Relax on unspoiled and uncrowded beaches or dive the pristine, uncharted depths. Take a walk through the indigenous forest and enjoy excellent bird watching, or have a castaway picnic on a remote stretch of beach. Spend hours teasing the fish on fly or indulge in a relaxing aromatherapy massage… It’s all up to you.
Power: •AC 220 Volts. There are 2 x 3 pin round plugs (South African) in each room.
Dietary Requirements: •Please inform Reservations of any dietary requirements and/or allergies. The cuisine is comprised mostly of fresh seafood.
Weather: Weather is increasingly difficult to predict – below is a guideline of what can be expected: •January: Hot. 28-35°C. Rainy season •February: Hot. 28-38°C. Rainy season, mostly storms in afternoon. •March: Cooling down. 25-30°C. Not as rainy as preceding two months. •April: Weather settled. 25-30°C. Normally little rain. •May: Lovely month, weather settled. 20-28°C. Normally no rain. •June: Fine weather. 18-27°C. Normally no rain. •July/August: Winter months, but warm. 15-25°C. Normally no rain. •September: Warming up again. Nice month. 18-28°C. Rain is normally unlikely. •October: Getting hot again. 23-30°C. Rain is normally unlikely. •November: Hot. 22-33°C. Normally could have some rain. •December: Hot. 23-36°C. Could rain. Fishing: •Fishing at the Lodge is excellent. Game fish such as King-, Queen- and Spanish Mackerel, Kawakawa, Kingfish, Queenfish and Sailfish can be caught all year round. Marlin season is November-March. Our specialty is Saltwater Fly Fishing. We have a strict “catch and release” policy.
Diving & Snorkelling: •We have a fully equipped dive centre with a certified Instructor. All equipment is provided. There are numerous reefs to explore with a stunning diversity of coral, fish, rays, turtles and small sharks. Resort courses are offered for first timers. Dolphins are often seen in the bay, Whales migrate along the coast from July to September and occasionally, if they’re lucky, Guests might see Whale Sharks or Dugongs.
